Russia's Kommersant daily newspaper reported that four large rough diamonds disappeared while being held at the Gokhran, the State Precious Metals and Gems Repository, for sorting.

The precious stones were part of a bigger batch of diamonds submitted to Gokhran by the Severalmaz mining company that extracts diamonds at a large mine in the northern Arkhangelsk region.

The investigation regarding the GIA certificates for around 500 diamonds that underwent a color treatment process is continuing, the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) said in a notice.
 
The enquiry is being led by authorized bodies and according to the picture that emerges, the IDE will decide how it proceeds with the issue.

Ex-Mines and Mining Development Minister, Obert Mpofu, has denied claims in a Zimbabwe court that he demanded a $10 million bribe to let a diamond mining deal to go ahead.

He denied the claims made by his accusers, Core Mining director Lovemore Kurotwi and former Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation CEO Dominic Mubaiwa, that the minister demanded a bribe from them.

A former vice president of product development at Tiffany & Co has been arrested and charged with stealing more than $1.3 million of diamond bracelets, drop earrings and other jewelry, claim prosecutors in Manhattan.
 
The former executive is Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun, aged 46. She has been charged with wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.

Dominion Diamond Corp, formerly the Harry Winston Diamond Corp, has obtained all regulatory approvals to acquire BHP Billiton's Ekati diamond operations in Canada's North West Territories.

Dominion Diamond said it expects the deal to close on or around April 10.

The Indian nationals were believed to be in the country on diamond business.

New York-based GIA members will hear a presentation from John Kennedy, president of the Jewelers Security Alliance (JSA), on How to Stay Safe in a Dangerous Business on March 12.

The meeting has been organized by the GIA alumni Manhattan branch.

The JSA works closely with the FBI and local police on in excess of 1,500 crimes committed against jewelry firms each year.
