HRD Antwerp Announces 16th Design Awards

HRD Antwerp is  launching the 16th edition of its international diamond jewelry design completion- with yhis year’s theme being “A la Carte – A Culinary Journey.”

HRD Antwerp says the theme aims to “encourage designers to produce sparkling and copious jewelry, seasoned with diamonds.”

The contest is open to designers from all over the world with the only condition being that the original pieces must contain at least one carat of diamonds.

IGI Teams Up With Indian Group To Give Courses

The International Gemological Institute is teaming up with the Gems and Jewelry Skill Council of India (GJSCI), which is affiliated with the Indian government, to provide professional jewelry training services throughout the country.

Under the alliance, the Institute will offer its expertise – including the IGI School of Gemology’s Polished Diamond and Jewelry Design courses – for a marginal fee to manufacturers and retailers in Mumbai and Surat.

Sarin Technologies Launches New Polishing Process Software

Sarin Technologies has launched a new version of its polished-diamond quality assurance and polishing process control software, called the Instructor TM 3.0, after 18 months of development work.
The new software runs on many of Sarin’s rough and polished diamond modeling platforms of the DiaExpert and DiaMension families, including the popular DiaMension HD and DiaScan S+ systems.

Jewelers Vigilance Committee Presents Award to Brad Brooks-Rubin

The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) presented the Stanley Schechter Award to Brad Brooks-Rubin for his work as the Special Advisor for Conflict Diamonds while serving at the US State Department.
The award was made at the JVC's annual luncheon event. It brought together industry members from the jewelry trade.
The keynote speaker was former Assistant Secretary of State Jose Fernandez.

Sarin Says Galaxy Ultra Ready for Launch in Surat and Tel Aviv


Sarin Technologies has announced the launch of the commercial service of the Galaxy Ultra in its Surat and Tel Aviv service centers after a successful conclusion of testing in Surat, India.
The service will be provided at other service centers as warranted by demand, while sales and delivery of Galaxy Ultra systems to interested customers is expected later in this year.

US Should Remove Sanctions on Zimbabwe Diamond Mines, Says KP Chair

The Chair of the Kimberley Process (KP) Welile Nhlapo has called on the United States to lift sanctions on Zimbabwean diamond mines in the controversial Marange area.
Nhlapo congratulated the European Union (EU) for moving in September to lift sanctions after Zimbabwe’s July 31 elections won by President Robert Mugabe.

GJEPC in India Discusses Impact of Rupee's Fall

The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has created a committee to propose steps for the country's diamond industry due to the difficulty created by the decline of the rupee against the US dollar in recent months.
The currency has dropped by more than 15 percent against the dollar since May. It is trading at around 63 to the dollar, having previously fallen to around 69 to the American dollar.

JVC Holds Presentation on Impact of Dodd-Frank Act

Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) senior counsel Suzan Flamm presented a seminar called Dodd-Frank & Conflict Minerals: What it means for your gold and tungsten supply chains at the JA New York summer show on July 28.

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act requires that publicly-held companies report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on the origins of the gold and tungsten they use.

HRD Antwerp to Start Providing Synthetic Diamond Certificate Service

HRD Antwerp is to start providing a Synthetic Diamond Certificate service from September 2. The certificate will be issued where a diamond is found to be synthetic.

HRD Antwerp said that synthetic diamonds have increasingly made their way into the gem diamond market in recent times. While they still represent a small part of the market, their numbers are rising, the lab said.

Consequently, HRD Antwerp has launched the new service in what it says is a bid to support consumer confidence.

S. Africa Honors Izhakoff for Role in Setting up Kimberley Process

The Government of South Africa paid tribute today to Eli Izhakoff, outgoing President of the World Diamond Council, for his significant role in establishing the Kimberley Process, at the 10th anniversary KP Intersessional Meeting taking place here.
