India Diamond Week Gets Off to Busy Start, Says DDC

Around 100 exhibitors and several hundred buyers took part on the first day of the third India Diamond Week on the trading floor of the Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) of New York in Manhattan on Monday, the DDC said in a statement. The event is being held in conjunction with India's Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

“This was the busiest and most successful opening day we’ve had so far for India Diamond Week," said DDC President Reuven Kaufman.

Tzoffey's 1818, the Israeli-French auction house, will be tendering a rough diamond of almost 100 carats during its upcoming rough diamond tender that will be held August 30- September 3, at the company's new premises in the lobby of the Diamond Tower of the Israel Diamond Exchange complex in Ramat Gan.

Reflecting the serious slowdown in the global trade for diamonds, India’s polished exports were down 18.34% and rough imports down 42.9% in July 2015 when compared to the corresponding figures of a year earlier, according to information released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

The rough center owned by Tzoffey's 1818 owner Avner Tzofiov was opened last Thursday in a festive ceremony in the entrance to the Diamond Tower. Among the guests were Israel Diamond Exchange President Shmuel Schnitzer, Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association President Kobi Korn, IDE General Manager Moti Besser and members of the bourse's management and others.

NY DDC Inviting WFDB members To Take Part In India Diamond Week

New York Diamond Dealers Club President Reuven Kaufman has issued a formal invitation to members of the WFDB to take part in the 3rd annual India Diamond Week on the DDC's Trading Floor from August 24 to 27.

"During the week, exhibitors from India and New York will be offering a wide range of goods," Reuven Kaufman said.

"We expect that this event will be a fantastic opportunity to create new connections and to do business."

The business hours of the event are from 10am to 5pm.

Int'l Diamond Week Preparations In Full Swing

While the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) is officially in recess for summer holidays, anyone walking the busy corridors of the four high rises that comprise the exchange complex could get quite a different impression.

Additional Jobs Cuts in Botswana Polishing Sector

Another cutting and polishing company in Botswana, Diacore, has made employees redundant, cutting 50 positions, taking the total number of workers made jobless in the industry to around 1,000 in the past year.

At its peak, the industry employed about 3,700 workers. Companies that have recently retrenched include Moti Ganz (100), Leo Schachter (100), Eurostar (100), Shrenuj (90) Safdico (30), Zebra (50), Dalumni, Tiffany’s (50) while Teemane (400) and DMB closed shop, according to media reports.

International Diamond Week to Host 25 Turkish Visitors

A delegation of some 25 Turkish jewelers and diamond buyers are expected to attend the Summer Edition of the International Diamond Week in Israel (IDWI), which will take place at the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) from August 30 to September 3.

The Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) announced that registration for the summer edition (August 31-September 4) of the International Diamond Week in Israel (IDWI) is now open.

Registered - and confirmed - buyers will be offered three free nights in the IDWI venue hotel.

Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair Starts Today

The 28th edition of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair started today (Thursday), with one of the biggest country pavilions organized by the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI).

The show, which organizers expect to attract thousands of visitors and buyers, is taking place at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The fair is widely considered to be one of Asia’s top three jewelry and gemstone trade shows.

The fair space has grown once again, and this year is in excess of 70,000 square meters.
